About the Author

Jake Leishman is a lifelong learner, educator, and storyteller entering a new chapter at eighty-two. Born “Judy” as World War II came to an end, Jake grew up questioning the expectations placed on women of her generation and eventually built a life shaped by education, multiple careers, teaching, community involvement, and countless relationships.

After earning degrees and continuing her education for more than two decades, Jake spent fifty years teaching adults through universities and public and private organizations. Retirement gave her the opportunity to turn a lifetime of experiences and observations toward fiction.

Married to Michael for more than fifty years before his passing, Jake raised three daughters and one son, who have since given her fourteen grandchildren. Their lives, relationships, perspectives, and experiences continue to inspire her characters and stories.

Book Reviews

“As a professional and personal associate of Jake for decades, I’ve read her nonfiction. Her first fictional manuscript shows just how differently she can tell a story.”

“Showing, not telling, about the environment - the real surroundings of the story - makes the settings come alive.”

“Retirement: exciting, boring, uncertain, but always a future dream. This book captures all of it.”
